CORIANDRUM SARIVUM

Coriander is also know as Chinese Parsley, Cilantro, Cilentro, and Culantro.

Coriander Has been cultivated for more than 3,000 years. It's seeds have been found in Egyptian tombs and it is believed to be one of the bitter herbs that was used for the Hebrew Passover. The Chinese used this herb as far back as 207 BCE and believe it could make you immortal. It has been used for everything from perfumes to food. In the Thousand and one Nights of Arabian fame, it is refer to as an aphrodisiac. Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs states that Coriander is named after bedbugs, because the herb smells like bedbugs.

It is a masculine or active herb, ruled by Mars, and belongs to the element of fire. Aries is it's astrology sign. It's magical powers are Love, Health, and Healing. Coriander has long been used in Love sachets and spells. Add the Powdered seeds to warn wine to make an effective lust potion. The seeds are used healing, especially easing headaches and are worn for this purpose. IF pregnant women eat coriander, their future child will be ingenious.

Antispasmodic (helps relieve cramps), appetizer (tastes good), aromatic(smells good), carminative (relieves gas), stomachic (helps settle upset stomach). In addition to the indicated uses, coriander can be applied externally for rheumatism and painful joints. Coriander also improves the flavor of other medicinal preparations. At one time it was considered to have aphrodisiac effects.

Coriander is good spice for beets, onions, sausage, seafood, stews, pasta salad and curries. A sauce for lamb or poultry is made by combining 1 cup coriander, 1/4 cup mint leaves, 2 garlic cloves, the juice of 1 lemon, a minced hot chili, and a handful of blanched peanuts. Put in blender or food processer with a little olive oil or cooking oil and blend until smooth.
