CAPSICUM SPP.
Family: Solanaceae
(nightshade family)
Common Names: pepper, chilli, chile, chili
Some of Chili's other names are red bird pepper, Africa pepper,
cockspur pepper and goat's pepper. The first written record of
Cayenne was after Christopher Columbus returned to Europe after
visiting the New World. It was recorded as one of the herbs that he
brought back in 1493. There doesn't seem to be a name for it in
Ancient Chinese, Latin, Sanskrit, Greek or Hebrew. This seems to be
a native of the Americas.
It is masculine or active in nature, belongs to the element of
Fire, and is ruled by Mars. Its powers govern fidelity, hex
breaking, and lust. If you feel your mate is looking for greener
pastures, buy two large dried chili pepper. Cross them and tie
together with red or pink ribbon. Place this beneath your pillow and
this should help keep fidelity in your marriage. If you've been
cursed, scatter red pepper around your house to break the spell. Red
pepper is also used in lust powers to inflame the beloved, or to
ensure that the love you find will be spicy.
Cayenne pepper comes from the dried and ground ripe pods of the red
pepper. This is ground along with yeast and flour to make a hard
cake, then it is ground again to make cayenne pepper. I believe that
paprika is make the same way but with a milder chili. Use this spice
for chili, curries and to add spice to bland dishes like eggs.
Appetizer (excites the appetite), digestive (aids digestion),
irritant (irritants soft tissue), sialagogue (stimulates the
secretion of saliva), stimulant (quickens the activity of the body),
and tonic. In powder or caplet form, capsicum, is used as general
stimulant and to build up resistance at the beginning of a cold. It
can also be taken as an infusion for the stomach and bowel pains or
cramps. Small quantities of the fresh fruit or the powder will
stimulate appetite. For external use, cayenne is made into plasters
or liniment or the tincture is applied to increase blood flow to
areas afflicted with rheumatism, arthritis pleuritis, or
pericarditis.
